In 1718, Dzungar Mongols harassed Tibet. Therefore, Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty sent approximately three thousand soldiers to suppress Dzungar Mongols. After Dzungar Mongols were defeated, around one thousand soldiers were stationed in Chengdu. They built a Manchu City, which was also called Shao City. Today, just the wide and narrow alleys of Shao City still remain.
The renovation project of these two alleys commenced in 2003 and ended in 2008. 45 Ming and Qing Style courtyards and old western style buildings are preserved very well. Some new buildings like hotels are also built. Today, it has become a well-known tourist place in Chengdu.
