Face Changing Show

Face Change is the most highlighted in a Sichuan Opera. Different faces can embody the performer’s characteristics vividly. Some talented performers can change their face in just one second. Sounds incredible, right? How do they do this? Sorry, it remains a second class national secret. In order to protect Face Change, China has included it on the National Intangible Culture Heritage List.

Face Change doesn’t mean that the performers change their faces. In fact, they change the masks on their faces very quickly. There are usually three ways to change their masks: wiping, blowing or pulling.
