Du Fu is a famous poet of the Tang Dynasty. Due to the outbreak of An-Shi Rebellion, he fled from Chang’an to Chengdu together with his families in December, 759AD. In March of 769 AD, he built up a thatched cottage at the bank of Huanhua Stream with the help of his friends. Upon completion, he named it Chengdu Thatched Cottage. There he lived nearly four years and composed about 300 poems.
Since the thatched cottage is located near the Huanhua Stream, it is also called Huanhua Thatched Cottage.
