Originating from a glacier on the northern side of the middle Himalayas, the Yarlung Tsangpo River runs across the south of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau from west to east, through India and Bengal, and finally flows into the Bay of Bengal. Altogether more than 2,900 kilometers (1,802 miles) long, it is the fifth longest river in China.
