Originally built in 652, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda is a holy place for Buddhists as well as a popular tourist destination in Xian. It includes four areas: the pagoda itself, the Da Ci’en Temple, and the North and South Squares. The South Square of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda has a bronze statue of Xuanzang, a Buddhist monk of the Tang Dynasty who traveled to India to obtain Buddhist sutras. It is also a recreational place for the locals to do morning exercises.
