Before Emperor Taizong (Li Shimin) ascended to the throne, he was named Prince of Qin of the Tang Dynasty. In 620 AD, Prince of Qin and his army defeated Liu Wuzhou’s rebel army. Li’s soldiers wrote new lyrics for their battle song Conquering Battle Array to praise Li’s extraordinary leadership. After Li Shimin became the emperor, he choreographed a dance according to that song. Later, this musical dance was named Prince of Qin Conquering Battle Array.
