The earth towers are mainly scattered in the southwest mountain area of Fujian Province. In the past, people living in the mountain areas were attacked by the bandits and wild animals. Hence, the earth towers were built to protect themselves. The most well-known is rounded Hakka Earth Tower in Yongding county. Except the rounded ones, there are square, rectangular and semi-circular earth towers.
