In the Qiyan Town, Anshun City of Guizhou, there are more than 40 well-preserved Tunbu villages. Yun Feng Tun Bu Scenic Area is the most representative one. It comprises eight Tunbu villages including Yunshantun, Benzhai, Leitun and Xiaoshanzhai. According to historical records, Zhu Yuanzhang, the founder of the Ming Dynasty, once deployed his troops to start his Southern Expedition, aiming at conquering southern China. After the Southern Expedition, the troops were ordered to stay and farm the wastelands. Yun Feng Tun Bu was the main area where the troops were stationed. Today, the defensive walls, watchtowers, lanes and residential buildings of the Tunbu villages in Yun Feng Tun Bu Scenic Area are well preserved. The residential buildings have courtyards (Siheyuan in Chinese), with features that are characteristic of those in the southern China.
