As the name indicates, Sun Yat-sen, father of the Republic of China, is buried in the mausoleum, construction of which began in 1926 and completed in 1929.
Sun Yat-sen was a great forerunner of Chinese democratic revolution as well as the founder of the Republic of China and the Kuomintang. He led the Chinese people to overthrow the Qing Dynasty rule and ended 2000 years of the feudal monarchy system.
After the 1911 Revolution, Sun Yat-sen was selected as the Provisional President of the Republic of China, a post he held until he passed away on Mar. 12, 1925. In 1940, he was bestowed the Father of the Republic of China by the National Government.
