Jiefangbei (Liberation Monument) was built to commemorate the victory of the Anti-Japanese War. Construction started On Oct. 31, 1946 and finished in Aug., 1947. Later, it was renamed the People’s Liberation Monument by General Liu Bocheng. In 1997, Chongqing built Jiefangbei Pedestrian Commercial Street around the People’s Liberation Monument. It covers Minzu Road, Minquan Road and Zourong Road. Today, it has become Chongqing’s most developed Central Business District. So far, 38 of the world’s 500 largest companies and another 3000 institutions and enterprises have set up business here.
