Due to the two-year long South Gate Renovation Project, the city wall lantern fairs in 2013 and 2014 were moved to the Tang Paradise. With the completion of the renovation project, a brand-new South Gate Culture Square was formally opened to the public on September 6, 2014. And from 2015 Xian City Wall Lantern Fair resumes. The exquisitely made lanterns are displayed from the South Gate to the Gate of Peace under different themes, including Happy Sheep, A Hundred Flowers Welcoming the Spring, Peacock Welcoming the Tourists, God of Wealth Sending Fortune, Underwater World, Green Wonderland and Deep Valley. Compared with previous lanterns, this year’s lanterns are more eco-friendly. Take the Green Wonderland for example, where the umbrella leaves on the trees are all made of around 20,000 mineral water bottles. After appreciating the beautiful lanterns, you can also walk into the Snack Street to try some exciting delicacies.
