Langmusi (Langmu Monastery in English) is not a monastery but a small town on the border of Sichuan and Gansu Provinces. The White Dragon River runs through the town, separating it into two parts: Sertri Gompa in Gansu and Kirti Gompa in Sichuan. Langmu refers to “a fairy maiden in the tiger’s den”. Legend has it that a fairy maiden turned into a stone figure and accompanies the tiger in its den to save the locals.
