The Fenghuang Ancient Town was constructed in 1704 during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. Three hundred years has passed but its original appearance has been well preserved. The East and North Gate Towers still remain today.
The stilt houses built along the Tuojiang River are a must-see. They usually have two storeys. The bedroom and living room are built on the upper storey while the animal pens and utility room are located on the lower storey. Between the stilt houses is the fire resistant wall, which can reduce damage if a fire occurs.
