Built in 1420, the Temple of Heaven is a holy place where emperors worshiped Heaven. It was included in the World Heritage List in 1998. Covering an area of about 2,700,000 square meters, it is much bigger than the Forbidden City. As Chinese emperors called themselves "The Son of Heaven", they dare not build their dwelling bigger than a dwelling for Heaven.
